- Some of the finest Jaguar E-types will grace the paths of Hampton Court Palace at the Concours of Elegance from 3-5 September in celebration of its 60th anniversary
- An early racing E-type raced to victory in period by Graham Hill, an early flat-floor Series 1 car, a 1969 Series 2 car owned by the grandson of Sir William Lyons and a recently restored 1973 Series 3 2+2 will all be on display at the show.
- In total, nearly 1,000 vehicles will be on display across the weekend as further features and cars are revealed in the coming months
- The Concours of Elegance remains the UK’s top concours d’elegance and among the top three in the world
- Tickets can be bought now from www.concoursofelegance.co.uk/tickets
The Concours of Elegance – famed for gathering together the rarest cars ever created – will showcase some of the world’s most exemplary Jaguar E-types in celebration of the car’s 60th anniversary at Hampton Court Palace in this year’s ‘Main Concours’ display.
Taking place from 3-5 September, the event is renowned as one of the top three concours d’elegance events in the world for the quality of cars it attracts; nowhere else in the UK can the public see such a high standard of rare historic vehicles.
The Jaguar E-type’s launch ranks among the most dramatic automotive unveilings of all time. Jaguar’s then PR Manager Bob Berry drove from Coventry to the Geneva Motor Show in one of the show-stand E-types, to arrive just 20 minutes before it was due to be unveiled. He arrived to an overwhelming demand for the car, and subsequently had to call upon legendary test-driver Norman Dewis to deliver another E-type overnight. Dewis drove from Coventry to Geneva in 11 hours averaging 68mph – man and machine pushed to their limits.
Among the cars on display at the Concours of Elegance is one of the most renowned racing E-types. The car is an E-type Roadster known as ‘ECD 400’. It was the first of seven vehicles prepared by the factory for racing. Its first event was at Oulton Park in 1961, where it won, in the hands of Graham Hill, followed by second at the Spa 500km, second again at Crystal Palace and, later on, a win at Snetterton, driven by Mike Parkes.
The next car is an early flat-floor, outside-bonnet-lock Series 1 model in highly original condition. Chassis 050062 is a very early example of the breed, one of the first 54 right-hand-drive examples built and destined for the Rossleigh Jaguar dealership in Edinburgh. As such, it is among just 92 right-hand-drive Roadsters with externally mounted bonnet locks and a flat floor. In 2017, under the custodianship of TV’s Steve Coogan, the car underwent a root-and-branch restoration, at specialists XK Engineering which took two years to complete.
Next is a 1969 Series 2 Roadster ‘XUC 673H’ which is owned by the grandson of Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons. It was originally supplied by Henlys of Hendon. When the current custodian inherited the car, it required a full restoration which was carried out partly through his own work at RA Creamer & Son Jaguar Main Dealer in Kensington, with the assistance of RS Panels of Nuneaton who repaired, painted, and reassembled the body. Following the car’s restoration in 1996 the car has covered some 18,000 miles including trips to Le Mans and Scotland and has appeared in various books, magazines, adverts and concours events.
Also on display a 1973 Series 3 2+2, recently restored by marque specialist E-type UK. The job was not only to restore but to upgrade the car to the highest standard. The metal work was all been repaired to original specification, a bespoke aluminium bonnet was fabricated to reduce front-end weight, and the car was resprayed to Concours standard in Opalescent Gunmetal paint. The interior of the 2+2 was fully re-trimmed in Oxblood Red, and now benefits from a 15-inch wooden steering wheel, classically-styled inertia reel seat belts, an LED dash light conversion and a period-look stereo system with Bluetooth capability.
These are just some of the stunning E-types that will be on display and form just a small part of the additional content that makes up the near-1,000 cars on display during the Concours of Elegance, also including a collection of 95 British cars gathered to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 95th birthday, and a 30UNDER30 Concours aimed at inspiring the next-generation of classic car enthusiast.
Special features for 2021 will also gather together a line-up of Future Classics, representing the potential concours d’elegance stars of the next 50 years, the Junior Concours and a Veteran Car Run display, gathering the pre-1905 motoring pioneers that each year make their pilgrimage from London to Brighton.
Away from the automotive displays, Concours of Elegance remains an occasion of pure luxury, with champagne provided by Charles Heidsieck, picnics by Fortnum & Mason, live stage interviews with Chubb Insurance, hosted by Jodie Kidd, and a collection of art, jewellery and fashion displays. Presenting Partner, A. Lange & Söhne, recently confirmed to support the event for a further three years, will continue to showcase some of its most intricate timepieces. New long-term partners joining the event in 2021 include The Peninsula London Hotel and Residences, Gooding & Co and McLaren.
Tickets to the Concours of Elegance 2021 are available now from £45 for an adult day admission entry. Tickets can be bought from concoursofelegance.co.uk/tickets

Hispano Suiza is a historic Spanish car brand owned by the Suqué Mateu family for four generations. Hispano Suiza Fábrica de Automóvil S.A. was founded in Barcelona in 1904 by Damián Mateu, with the help of the technical director and engineer Marc Birkigt, also a partner in the company.
Between 1904 and 1946, Hispano Suiza manufactured more than 12,000 high-performance luxury vehicles and 50,000 aircraft engines. Its headquarters, technical centre and manufacturing plant are in Barcelona (Spain). Hispano Suiza embodies a spirit that combines the pride of being a Spanish brand with a strong family legacy.
Since its foundation, four generations of the Suqué Mateu family have preserved the family brand, providing momentum and dynamism to maintain its significant heritage. Upon taking control of the company Miguel Mateu, the founder´s son, continued to produce luxury high-end vehicles.
In March 2019 Miguel Suqué Mateu, relaunched the brand at the Geneva Motor Show where he unveiled a fully electric, truly breath-taking vehicle: the Carmen. - The CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept pushes the limits to deliver a radical interpretation of the company’s future urban all-electric car
- The racing concept mixes electrification, sustainability, performance and the exciting aesthetics of the virtual world
- The CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept hints at the future design language of the urban electric vehicle, which will be launched in 2025
- It will be unveiled at the preopening of the new CUPRA City Garage in Munich, during the IAA Munich International Motor Show
CUPRA is pushing the limits with its most radical interpretation of an urban electric car, the CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept, which will be launched in 2025.
Racing is at the core of CUPRA’s DNA and that’s why the company decided to present the vision of its 100% all-electric urban vehicle first as a race car with bold and sharp looks: the CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept.
“The CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept is a radical interpretation of the company’s urban electric car, due to be launched in 2025. This racing concept gives an idea of the design language of the future street-car and will inspire its creation,” said Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA. “The urban electric car is a key strategic project not only for our company, but also for the Volkswagen Group, as our aim is to produce more than 500,000 urban electric cars per year in Martorell for different Group brands. The urban electric car will democratise and make accessible electromobility to the masses.”
The CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept builds on the design foundations of the 100% electric urban vehicle that will be launched in 2025. The road version will mix astonishing design with supreme dynamics and will be based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB short platform.
It represents a revolution in the brand towards a more progressive design language, while maintaining the values that identify each CUPRA model: its sportiness and character making it an unconventional challenger brand.
Emotional and radical
“The CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept injects a gamification look to the racing car, projecting a radical interpretation of the company’s urban electric car,” said Jorge Diez, CUPRA Design Director. “Each contoured line and sculpted surface in the design is brought to life by a livery that uses kinetic particles to add movement to the surface as light shifts across it.”
This racing version will influence the road version of the urban electric car, but the core elements are enhanced to give the vehicle an even more rebellious character.
The CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept is rooted in the design philosophy of CUPRA: an emotional and genuine design that stands out thanks to striking and athletic lines, a bold expression, with a gender-neutral approach and amplified by the electric era.
This is demonstrated in the design identity of the CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept:
- At the front, the shark nose was created using a negative surface. The front face is also emphasised by the new triangular signature in the headlamps.
- Its wrap-around window graphic generates the visual effect of a helmet – as in the CUPRA Tavascan Concept – and gives continuity between the windows around the whole car to deliver the effect of a floating roof.
- Moving to the side, the car reveals athletic proportions, thanks to the wedge line – from the C-pillar to the front door – with diagonal sculptural surfaces, that create contrast.
- The rear view of the UrbanRebel Concept shows a bold approach and a new interpretation of the design seen in the CUPRA Formentor.
- The rear features an iconic design thanks to horizontal proportions. On top of that, the large spoiler – a nod to racing cars seen in the virtual world – gives it an imposing sharp look underlined by the negative surface beneath it.
With a total length of 4,080mm, a width of 1,795mm and a height of 1,444mm, the car teases the proportions of the future urban electric car in a racing disguise.
The CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept delivers 250kW of continuous power and up to 320kW at its peak. It can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in only 3.2 secs.
The CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept mixes pure electrification, sustainability and performance with exciting aesthetics influenced by the digital era. It gives an idea of the future design language of the urban electric vehicle, that will be launched by the company in 2025.
The CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept will be unveiled at the preopening of the new CUPRA City Garage in Munich, during the IAA Munich International Motor Show.
CUPRA is an unconventional challenger brand based on stimulating style and contemporary performance that inspires the world from Barcelona with progressive cars and experiences. Launched in 2018 as a stand-alone brand, CUPRA has its own corporate headquarters and a racing car workshop in Martorell (Barcelona), in addition to a network of specialized points of sale around the world.
In 2020, the brand maintained its upward trend with an 11% growth and 27,400 vehicles sold, thanks to the strong performance of the CUPRA Ateca and the CUPRA Leon as well as the market entry of the CUPRA Formentor, the first model uniquely designed and developed for the brand. In 2021, CUPRA aims to prove that electrification and sportiness are a perfect match with the launch of the plug-in hybrid versions of the CUPRA Formentor and its first 100% electric model, the CUPRA el-Born.
CUPRA will participate this year in the off-road electric SUV’s competition Extreme E. Additionally, it is also FC Barcelona’s official automotive and mobility partner and World Padel Tour’s premium sponsor. The CUPRA Tribe is made up of a team of ambassadors who share the brand values, such as the German goalkeeper Marc ter Stegen, the Swedish driver Mattias Ekström and five of the best padel players in the world, among others.

Everrati Automotive Limited (Everrati™), a leading technology company specialising in the redefining and futureproofing of automotive icons through the integration of the very latest electric vehicle (EV) powertrains, today reveals its latest addition to its line-up: an electric version of the Land Rover Series IIA, a zero-emission utilitarian vehicle for the 21st century.
A genuine British icon, the Land Rover Series IIA is renowned as one of the most accomplished
off-road vehicles ever made since its conception 60 years ago. As the brainchild of celebrated automotive designer Maurice Wilks, the Series IIA set a benchmark as the world’s first four-wheel-drive vehicle available to the public.
Incorporating a brand-new EV powertrain, uniquely designed and developed at Everrati’s base in Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire, the company’s expert team of specialists work together to meticulously restore the Series IIA body and chassis, which has been sourced for both its originality and exemplary condition, pairing the fully rebuilt vehicle with an advanced electric powertrain.
Justin Lunny, Founder & CEO of Everrati Automotive Limited, comments: “With the unveiling of an electric version of the legendary Land Rover Series IIA, we are continuing to deliver on Everrati’s mission, which is to craft cutting-edge, capable, highly desirable and sustainable cars, each with the soul of an icon. To do so requires unparalleled attention to detail and technical proficiency, with one eye on ensuring our iconic cars meet 21st century demands, and the other on safeguarding a vehicle’s original character and DNA – both dynamically and aesthetically.”
Everrati’s first redefined off-road icon will make its public debut at Concours of Elegance as part of the Bridge of Weir enclosure, at Hampton Court Palace from the 3rd– 5th September.
Fortifying the fundamentals
Land Rovers are synonymous with ruggedness and dependability, therefore maintaining the structural integrity of the electrified Series IIA forms the foundation of Everrati’s restoration process.
Once each component has been carefully removed from the donor car, including all bodywork, powertrain and interior parts, the car’s chassis and bulkhead are galvanised and coated in a protective zinc process to prevent future corrosion from the elements.
Customisation is key
True to the limitless functionality and nature of the original vehicle, Everrati’s electrified and futureproofed Series IIA is available in both modern canvas or traditional canvas soft-tops and safari hard top format. The wheels have been upgraded and are available in a range of colours, all are fitted with Michelin tyres, selected for performance and durability.
Go-anywhere, zero-emission abilities
Central to the vehicle’s evolution into an electrified 21st century off-roader is the conscientious and detailed integration of a new, yet fully reversible, sustainable electric powertrain. CAD-designed and optimised to ensure seamless incorporation, the state-of-the-art 60kWh battery pack features advanced battery management and temperature control. The power output of 150bhp and 300Nm of torque reinvigorates the car’s original character.
Coupled with a true zero-emission range of up to 125 miles, the electric Series IIA offers both two and four-wheel-drive modes, as well as hi/low ranges for optimised traction and dynamic ability dependent on the driving environment, ensuring the car’s original access all areas capacity endures. Power steering and braking allow for a more accessible driving experience, whilst preserving and updating the feel of the Series IIA’s original controls.
Delivering comforts both on and off road
The cabin has also been redefined and subtly upgraded to modern standards with a host of new additions to enhance driver comfort and convenience.
Heated front seats trimmed in fine, sustainable automotive leather supplied by Scotland’s Bridge of Weir – not only noted for being of the highest quality but also the world’s lowest carbon intensity automotive leather further adding to Everrati’s overall sustainability mission. This provides the driver and front passenger with an exceptionally comfortable environment. Fine automotive leather continues through to the rear bench seats, featuring front and rear lap belts for all passengers that can even be heated if required.
And no Series IIA is complete without a central Cubby Box for additional interior storage capacity.
