Helm exists to push the boundaries of automotive customisation, and is born out of a love for the Series 1 Jaguar E-type.
Bringing together uncompromising production standards, with advanced modern technology and bespoke interiors by acclaimed leather expert Bill Amberg, Helm celebrates the artistry of the iconic Series 1 design, while elevating the driving experience to the pinnacle of contemporary luxury.
Only 20 cars will be produced, all to the exact specification of the owners, to create unique works of automotive art, which will never be replicated.
Originally designed by former aeronautics engineer Malcolm Sayer, on its release on 15 March 1961, Enzo Ferrari described the Series 1 Jaguar E-type as “the most beautiful car ever made”. Sixty years on, with Sayer’s mathematically perfect lines flowing seamlessly from long nose to shapely rear, it remains a marvel of automotive engineering.
Having spent over a decade professionally sourcing the finest examples of these cars for restoration from across the UK and Europe, Helm founder Chedeen Battick approached the project with an obsessive eye for detail, and a deep respect for the value of British craftsmanship.
From the steel-reinforced monocoque shell, the handmade aluminium doors and hand built and polished big bore aircraft-grade stainless steel exhaust system, upwards of 3,800-man hours go into creation of one of Helm’s E-types. Under the aluminium handmade bonnet, lies a 300 bhp fast road 3.8 litre normally aspirated engine.
Elsewhere, modern technology such as electronic speed-sensitive power steering, a bespoke engineered five-speed gearbox, 6 pot alloy front brakes, adjustable suspension, a heated screen and soft close door system, is integrated subtly without interfering with the purity and elegance of the original design.
The interior, designed and produced in collaboration with Bill Amberg, sees buttery soft suede and plump semi-aniline leather used throughout. Lowering oneself into the driving seat of a Helm E-type is an unparalleled sensorial experience – the haptic qualities of the leather, together with thoughtful and exquisite internal detailing are intended to be as satisfying as trying on a new bespoke suit, or a perfectly fitted glove.
Hand crafted aluminium internal panels have been wrapped by Amberg’s team of leather craftspeople, while beautifully executed hand-stitched detailing is used on leather toggle switches, a hand stitched steering wheel and matching grab handle. Leather upholstery with stitched detailing was completed by the studio, and Amberg has created bespoke luggage for each Helm E-type, in the form of two sets of his iconic Rocket bags, in weekend and briefcase editions.
Turning the key in the ignition, a Helm Jaguar transports the driver back to a place and time in history. “I wanted to create the E-type the way I feel it should be, remaining sensitive to its history, but without a vinyl interior, and without the hassle of carburettor trouble,” explains Chedeen. “We combine British craftsmanship with the finest standards of modern automotive engineering, instilling a feeling of love, care and attention to detail within each component.”
The first Helm E-type will be launching March 24th, and will be available for private viewings on request. For image requests or more information, please contact Timothy Anscombe-Bell on press@helm-motorcars.co.uk.

- All-new next-generation lightweight battery and e-powertrain system raises the bar for electric bike performance, efficiency and range
- Advanced cell module specification realises optimum balance between battery power and energy
- Industry-leading technology developed by WAE includes all-new battery management software and integrated vehicle control unit
- Rider benefits include more power for longer, outstanding performance regardless of battery charge, faster charging and optimised bike handling through enhanced frame position
- Project TE-1 is a unique collaboration between expert British design and engineering organisations; this announcement marks the successful completion of second of four development phases
- Media assets: http://bit.ly/WAE_Triumph_Phase2
The all-new battery powertrain developed by Williams Advanced Engineering (WAE) for Triumph Motorcycles’ TE-1 project will set new standards for electric bike performance, with class-leading power, efficiency, charging time and range.
Wholly responsible for TE-1’s lightweight, ground breaking battery system, employing a holistic approach to development will allow riders to use more electric power for longer providing access to outstanding performance regardless of battery charge, alongside rapid charging times.
With styling sketches for the final TE-1 prototype unveiled alongside first images of the innovative advanced electric powertrain, more detail can be revealed on this pioneering project which has now reached the successful completion of phase 2 of its four-phase programme.
Beginning in May 2019, TE-1 has been focused on developing specialist electric motorcycle technology and innovative integrated solutions, thanks to a unique collaboration between four leading British organisations, Triumph Motorcycles, Williams Advanced Engineering, Integral Powertrain Ltd, and WMG at the University of Warwick. Funding has been provided by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles via Innovate UK.
Paul McNamara, Technical Director at Williams Advanced Engineering, said: “WAE has a long history in powering a number of world-renowned electric vehicles, both on track and on the road. Alongside our partners, we are delighted to be playing a key role in this innovative project, setting new standards in electric performance on two wheels.”
Nick Bloor, Triumph CEO, said: “The completion of Phase 2, and the promising results achieved to date, provide an exciting glimpse of the potential electric future and showcase the talent and innovation of this unique British collaboration. This important project will provide one of the foundations for our future electric motorcycle strategy, which is ultimately focused on delivering what riders want from their Triumph; the perfect balance of performance, handling and real world usability, with genuine Triumph character.”
Williams Advanced Engineering has provided industry-leading lightweight battery design and integration capability, using its test and development facilities to deliver an innovative battery management system combined with vehicle control unit. At the start of the project, WAE identified appropriate cell technology and battery architecture to deliver the performance objectives set by the partners, namely the best balance between power and energy.
The battery has been developed to bring two class-leading benefits: the battery can deliver sustained power, matched to the consistent maximum power that the motor can give – whilst the battery can also charge at a faster rate.
WAE has also created innovative battery management software to ensure power is delivered in relationship to battery performance. The outcome of phase two for WAE includes a fully bench-tested battery with performance results that exceed any current technology in terms of power and energy density.
The all-new battery has peak power of 170kW and continuous power of 90kW, with a capacity of 15kWh. This enables the motorbike to deliver 130kW of peak power and 80kW of continuous power. Class leading system cooling combined with the optimum balance of power and energy means TE-1 can give the rider more electric power for longer and deliver outstanding performance regardless of battery charge. The 360-volt system also enables a fast-charging time of under 20mins (0-80%), which is combined with a market leading target range.
WAE has optimised the battery module layout to balance mass and positioning within the prototype chassis taking into consideration centre of gravity, space and relationship with the powertrain and charging approach. A new and bespoke vehicle control unit has been integrated into the battery pack to minimise weight and packaging.
Dyrr Ardash, Senior Commercial Manager at Williams Advanced Engineering, said: “Through this innovative project, we are delivering next-generation battery technology. The energy density of this new battery will be a significant step forward giving the rider more power, for longer. And whereas existing technology limits performance at low levels of charge, our lightweight, compact solution gives the rider all of the performance all of the time – regardless of battery charge. It also delivers class leading range.
“Additionally, we have pushed the limits of performance by balancing the battery for acceleration and range, with simulations modelled on track-based riding. In other words, as aggressive as possible. WAE has also designed and developed a bespoke electronic control unit combining the battery management system with the bike control functions in one package. A first for this market, this benefits packaging and integration whilst optimising performance and range. What’s more, we have also reduced mass and optimised frame position to benefit handling too.”
High performance battery expertise lies at the core of WAE. The company was the original supplier of batteries to the entire grid of FIA Formula E World Championship cars in 2014, a relationship that has been revived for 2022-23 season with WAE being awarded the exclusive contract to supply the Gen3 battery system. WAE also supplies battery systems to ETCR and Extreme-E.

- K8 delivers a complete package that establishes new quality benchmarks
- State-of-the-art tech ensures a progressive, modern and light cabin
- Dynamic driving and handling performance thanks to a sophisticated AWD system and engineered suspension
- Choice of four refined powertrains offer smooth power delivery, improved fuel economy and reduced emissions
- K8 not coming to Europe or the UK
The Kia K8 combines cutting-edge innovation and dynamic performance to establish new benchmarks for premium quality in the saloon segment.
Further demonstrating the recent rejuvenation of the brand, the K8 offers progressive and refined driving performance, cutting-edge Advanced Driver Assistance System, and a contemporary and clean interior space that provides the driver and passengers with a first-class lounge experience.
The K8 will go on-sale in selected global markets from next month, starting with the Korean market.
Engineering at the core:
K8’s sleek style is matched with refined powertrains and driving performance
The K8’s four powertrains have all been developed to offer refined, smooth power delivery while improving fuel economy and reducing emissions (powertrain options may vary by country).
A state-of-the-art 3.5-litre Smartstream powertrain is offered in two power and fuel guises: a GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) derivative with 300ps and 359Nm torque, and a LPI (Liquid Propane Injection) stablemate with 240ps with 314Nm torque.
A 2.5-litre GDI engine is also available, delivering 198ps and 248Nm torque. Like the Smartstream powertrain, the 2.5-litre four-cylinder features GDI and MPI dual injection technology to realise optimised fuel injection across all operating conditions.
The entry-level powertrain in the new K8 is a refreshed version of Kia’s award-winning 1.6-litre T-GDI engine, which will be available from the first half of this year.
A smooth eight-speed automatic transmission, designed and developed in-house, accompanies the 2.5-litre GDI engine and the 3.5-litre GDI and LPI Smartstream derivatives.
Adding to the sense of refinement, the K8 has been developed to offer minimal NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness), employing reinforced sound packaging materials including a triple sealing solution to the doors that dramatically reduces unwanted noises coming from the outside. Vibration levels are kept to a minimum thanks in part to a new vibration damper.
As a performance-orientated model, the front-wheel-based AWD K8 will be available with the 3.5-litre GDI Smartstream powertrain that delivers tailored power and performance driving characteristics while achieving improved fuel economy and reduced emissions. It allows the K8 sports saloon to always perform optimally, facilitating power and performance by actively distributing torque between the front and rear wheels depending on road conditions and driving situations.
A MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension create the perfect balance between driving dynamics and ride comfort.
Progressive and modern space:
An automotive lounge that fuses nature with technology and luxury with comfort
Every element of the K8 interior has been designed with high-end luxury in mind, serving to elevate the senses of the driver and passengers.
For example, the K8 features an ergonomically-advanced driver’s seat that uses no fewer than seven air pockets – including in the backrest, sides and hip areas – to achieve the perfect seating position and feeling when driving.
Named the Ergo Motion Seat, the leading-edge driver’s seat has a ‘comfort stretching’ mode that individually controls the air pockets of the hip and backrest areas of the seat, creating the effect of stretching while sitting down. There is also a ‘smart support’ function that tenses the seat against the body of the driver, creating a unison and helping to inspire total driving confidence. The ‘smart support’ function of the seat is activated when the K8 engages sports driving mode or when the car exceeds 130km/h. It lowers the height of the hip area of the seat and strengthens the support to the side bolsters. A third innovative mode – ‘posture assistance’ – adjusts the air pouches located around the hip and back areas of the seat when driving for more than one hour to provide a sumptuous seating position.
Further enhancing driver comfort is a new cushion extension function of the Ergo Motion Seat that allows the driver to fully adjust the length of the hip areas of the seat to make it compatible with their height and preferred driving position.
The same care and attention to detail has also been given to the well-being of the passengers in the K8. Just like the driver’s seat, for the front passenger there is a high-tech eight-way adjustable comfort electric seat that offers the optimal seating position and resting space.
The ventilation and heating of all the K8 seats can be adjusted in three easy stages and the cabin can be sectioned into three main areas for ambient temperature optimisation, meaning each passenger plus the driver experiences a bespoke lounge environment.
For passengers in the second row of the K8, there is a multi-functional fully-connected centre armrest featuring a USB charging port, sliding cup holders and a media control device.
Further enhancing K8 passenger convenience, the rear area of the first-row headrests has been developed to encompass a hanger-type design, allowing clothing and handbags to be easily and conveniently hooked into place.
Interior tech:
Advanced connectivity, infotainment and sound quality
A contemporary panoramic curved display links a 12-inch digital cluster and a 12-inch infotainment system, bringing together the K8’s advanced connectivity and infotainment technology for all inside the sports saloon. This curved display – a first for Kia – is clean, ultra-modern and easy-to-use, giving the K8 an effective minimalist-meets-simplicity tech style.
The K8 is the first-ever Kia vehicle to feature industry-leading sound system from Meridian Audio. The 14-speaker premium sound system from the world-renowned British audio pioneer makes use of advanced materials and next-generation innovations to enable the very highest levels of sound quality tuned specifically for the interior of the vehicle. The system includes a titanium dome vibration plate tweeter that helps to minimise sound distortion and natural wood fibre dresses the vibration plate that is part of the door speaker, adding to the natural and organic ambience of the K8 cabin
Meridian Horizon – a state-of-the-art software audio technology that is part of the K8’s premium sound system – creating a three-dimensional surround-sound setting, mimicking the crystal clear audio that the listener would experience in a real concert hall. Meridian lntelli-Q – data-driven equalisation – optimises audio playback within the cabin based on data available from the vehicle.
Adding to the K8’s leading tech capabilities, Kia’s all-new 12-inch head-up display technology – which has a 50 per cent increase in projection area and graphic size compared to the previous generation – has been applied for the first time.
This next-generation head-up display unit clearly visualises essential data for the driver in their eye line, including Advanced Driver Assistance System, navigation information and the current speed.
Advanced Driver Assistance System:
K8 combines leading ADAS technologies
Kia’s renowned Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) reduces hazards, fully protecting occupants and other road users on every journey. As part of its ADAS package, the K8 features Kia’s highly acclaimed Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), which helps avoid collisions with objects in front of the vehicle while driving. If the preceding vehicle suddenly slows down, or if a forward collision risk is detected, such as a stopped vehicle, a pedestrian, or a cyclist in front of the K8, FCA provides a warning. After the warning, if the risk of collision increases, FCA automatically assists with emergency braking of the vehicle.
FCA’s emergency braking capabilities also assist in many other driving scenarios for the K8. This includes if there is a risk of collision with an oncoming vehicle while turning left at a junction or while driving through a junction and there is a risk of collision with oncoming traffic from either the left or right. When changing lanes while driving, if there is a risk of collision with an oncoming or preceding vehicle in the next lane, FCA automatically assists with avoidance steering capability. Finally, if there is a risk of collision with a pedestrian – especially if the person is in the side of vehicle’s intended path – FCA technology automatically assists with avoidance steering.
The K8 also features Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) technology that warns if the car is exceeding the speed limit by using data from the front view camera or navigation system.
Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC) helps the driver to drive the K8 at a safe speed on the highway using real-time navigation data. For example, if the driver sets the speed to the current speed limit on the highway during NSCC operation, the set speed is automatically changed whenever the speed limit changes. Further extending the scope of NSCC, for parts of the highway where there are corners and curves, the technology automatically reduces the speed of travel of the K8 before encountering the corner or curve. Upon getting back to the ‘straight’ of the highway, NSCC resets the speed limit to the original level.
Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) helps maintain a set distance and speed from the vehicle ahead when driving on a highway and helps centre the vehicle in the lane while driving, even through a curved section. In scenarios where the vehicle to the side of the Kia saloon is driving too close, HDA 2 technology assists to adjust the K8’s path, so as to minimise danger and maximise safety.
Surround View Monitor (SVM) technology displays real-time video footage of the environment around the K8, further increasing safety and especially during parking manoeuvres.
Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA) helps avoid collisions with rear objects while reversing. If there is a risk of collision with a rear object while reversing, PCA provides a warning. After the warning, if the risk of collision increases, PCA automatically assists with emergency braking.
Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) helps the driver to remotely park or exit a parking spot from outside the vehicle.
The K8 is constructed from high-strength but lightweight steels that boosts overall occupant safety. It also features nine different safety restraint and structure system applications, including driver airbag, driver knee airbag, passenger airbag, two front-side airbags, two rear-side airbags and two side-curtain airbags.
With the K8 set to go on sale in Korea from next month, there are currently no plans to bring the car to market in Europe or the UK.

Vauxhall has announced revised pricing for its award-winning electric vehicle range to ensure customers can still access the revised Plug-in Car Grant (PiCG) incentive.
The price changes for the all-new Mokka-e and the Vivaro-e Life are effective immediately.
Last week, the Government announced changes to the incentive, reducing the grant from £3,000 to £2,500, with fully electric vehicles costing more than £35,000 RRP (including VAT and delivery fees) no longer eligible.
To ensure customers can still benefit from the grant, Vauxhall is pleased to announce new prices for its all-new Mokka-e and Vivaro-e Life to ensure they remain as accessible as possible to both new and existing electric vehicle buyers. All examples of the award-winning Corsa-e supermini qualify for the new PiCG criteria, so it is not subject to any price changes.
The new Mokka-e sees prices revised across the entire trim range to ensure all derivatives remain eligible for the grant. Prices for the Mokka-e SE Premium now start from £33,040 OTR, while the range-topping Mokka-e Launch Edition starts from £34,995 OTR.
To ensure the Vivaro-e Life qualifies for the new Plug-in Car Grant, Edition models have seen their list price realigned by more than £2,000, with prices starting from £34,995 OTR. The Vivaro-e Life Combi will be the same specification level as the Edition model and will also start from £34,995 OTR.
Paul Wilcox, Managing Director, Vauxhall, said: “At Vauxhall, we believe in making sure our vehicles are as accessible as possible to the greatest number of people, and especially so when it comes to zero emissions-in-use motoring, so I am pleased to confirm that all Corsa-e, all Mokka-e and the new Vivaro-e Life Combi are eligible for the Government Plug-in Car Grant.”
Vauxhall is aiming to offer an electric variant across its model line up by 2025, with the entire model range available to order via the new Vauxhall Online Store. The new online platform allows buyers to configure, finance and order their next vehicle entirely from the comfort of their home.
Customers can also schedule a one-on-one live tour of the vehicle they’re interested in via the new Vauxhall Virtual Showroom, which connects buyers with a product specialist who will walk customers around the vehicle through a live video feed to answer any questions.
Vauxhall Corsa-e customers will receive the option to take a free Wallbox Pulsar Plus charger professionally installed by a British Gas engineer. British Gas will also offer 30,000 free green miles to Vauxhall customers through a British Gas EV dual fuel tariff.
The special EV tariff offered by British Gas is a time of use tariff that offers cheaper electricity overnight for charging between the hours of 12.00am and 5.00am. The electricity on the tariff will be 100% renewable energy, with 30,000 miles free of charge.
For the Mokka-e, Vauxhall also offers a subsidised 7kW home charging unit from PodPoint for just £299.
In addition, all fully-electric Vauxhalls purchased will be automatically registered for eight years battery warranty, eight years roadside assistance and six months Polar Plus subscription.

Bentley Motors today releases details of the new Continental GT Speed – the most dynamic road car in Bentley’s 101 year history and ultimate performance-focused interpretation of the world’s benchmark luxury Grand Tourer.
Designed, engineered, developed and handcrafted in Bentley’s carbon neutral luxury automotive factory, this new third-generation model builds on a long tradition of Speed variants. Originally introduced with the highly-acclaimed, first generation Continental GT Speed in 2007 – itself inspired by the 3-Litre Speed models of the 1920s. The latest GT Speed continues the bloodline by representing the ultimate combination of luxury and performance in a Grand Touring package.
Dr. Matthias Rabe, Member of the Board for Engineering at Bentley Motors, comments:
“The new Continental GT Speed represents the very pinnacle of performance grand touring. This new model is the most powerful expression of Continental GT values, exciting and dynamic, with unique Speed detailing to enhance the ownership experience and offering customers more control over the character of the car.
“The world’s most luxurious Grand Tourer is now truly more capable than ever before, with a new sportier edge which will appeal to performance-focused drivers. The Speed is the latest chapter in the Continental GT story, helping Bentley customers to create their own extraordinary journeys.”
New Chassis Technology – True Sporting Potential
The pinnacle performance Continental GT features advanced chassis technology harnessed specifically for the new model.
New Electronic All-Wheel Steering enhances the dynamic nature of the Speed in BENTLEY and COMFORT driving modes. However, this is even more apparent in SPORT mode, as the steering combines with Bentley Dynamic Ride and an electronic limited slip differential for a level of agility unlike any other Bentley road car.
At low and medium speeds, the GT Speed’s rear wheels are steered in the opposite direction to the front wheels to aid a rapid change of direction, noticeably increasing the feeling of nimbleness. The steering feels sharper and with a quicker ratio, and a commensurate increase in steering feel provides even more driver confidence. At high speeds, the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front, to improve stability. The system is significantly more active on the GT Speed than it is on the Flying Spur, where its primary purpose is a reduction in turning circle and enhanced high-speed stability.
Featuring Active All-Wheel drive, the traction control and torque distribution has been recalibrated in all driver modes to provide a noticeable character shift relative to the standard Continental GT.
Maintaining Bentley’s philosophy of the vehicle feeling progressive and secure, yet still be dynamic, this approach rewards drivers of all abilities. To achieve this philosophy in BENTLEY and COMFORT mode, overall grip is balanced between the front and rear wheels, in SPORT this mode has been calibrated with a more rear-biased torque–split in all driving scenarios.
For the first time in a Bentley, the latest generation of the Continental GT Speed introduces the use of an electronic rear differential (eLSD).
Specifically tuned hand-in-hand with the traction control and active chassis systems, the eLSD provides increased lateral capacity, improved longitudinal stability, enhanced on-throttle adjustability and delivers better traction in adverse road conditions.
In BENTLEY and COMFORT mode this provides improved traction, provides a greater level of confidence for the driver and makes the vehicle feel more stable at high speeds. In SPORT mode, the eLSD has been tuned to balance on and off throttle adjustability, improved turn-in response and increased straight-line performance. The combined benefit means the Continental GT Speed is now more adjustable and more driver-focussed than ever before without compromising comfort or stability.
Improved cornering dynamics and the extra grip provided by the new systems allows the driver to exit any corner with an increased level of precision and confidence. In turn, the vehicle is able to extract the maximum performance from the available traction to deliver stunning acceleration and composure from the apex. In SPORT mode, the traction management system sends a greater proportion of power to the rear axle to allow for even greater on-throttle control of cornering line.
Working alongside these systems are the key chassis technologies that deliver body control and ride comfort with no compromise to one another – namely Bentley’s three-chamber active air suspension with adaptive damping, and Bentley Dynamic Ride – the 48V active anti-roll control system that Bentley pioneered on the Bentayga and third-generation Continental GT. This innovative system features powerful electric motors within each anti-roll bar to resist body roll. In their firmest setting, the motors can deliver 1300 Nm in 0.3 secs to counteract cornering forces and keep the body level.
Meanwhile, depending on the mode, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) System allows the driver to experience an even greater level of freedom before the Speed’s safety systems intervene to correct any anomalies. With the ESC engaged, the car provides reassuring stability over uneven surfaces, abnormal cambers or in inclement weather conditions. When switched to Dynamic mode, the ESC extends the freedom of the driver, allowing the experienced pilot to set and alter the cornering stance of the car at their discretion.
With the ESC switched off, the mechanical grip and inherent balance of the GT Speed comes to the fore, allowing a driver-focused experience previously only seen in Bentley’s racing machines. After utilising strong turn-in performance thanks to the All-Wheel Steering and eLSD, on track the driver can choose to balance throttle and steering to deliver effortless, progressive yaw angles.
To complement the extra capability of the chassis, a newly-engineered Carbon Ceramic brake system has been introduced as an option on the GT Speed. Carbon Silicon Carbide discs provide additional brake bite, with a strong, firm brake pedal feel and excellent brake fade resistance. Ten-piston front callipers and four-piston rears supply incredible braking force – needed when up to 10 MJ of energy are converted to heat in a full stop from top speed. The carbon ceramic material also saves over 33Kg of weight (all of it un-sprung mass) and produces extremely low levels of brake dust, helping to maintain the fresh look of the 22” unique Speed wheels.
Continental GT Speed – Thrilling Performance
The new GT Speed is the ultimate performance-focused expression of Bentley’s definitive Grand Tourer, yet maintains the luxury, comfort and usability of its siblings. It is equipped with an uprated version of Bentley’s renowned 6.0-litre W12 TSI engine, delivering 659 PS (650 bhp) – a 4 per cent increase of 24 PS over the current W12 model – whilst maintaining an extraordinary 900 Nm (664 lb.ft) of torque. With exceptional handling, this results in a top speed of 208 mph (335 km/h) and 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds), a reduction of 0.1 second.
Both engine and transmission have been deliberately calibrated to suit the car’s driver-focused credentials. This is most noticeable in SPORT mode, where the twin-turbocharged W12 has been tuned to keep the engine in the power band longer by up-shifting later, or downshifting earlier. This creates a more eager response to the driver’s throttle inputs.
The dual-clutch, eight-speed transmission shift is twice as fast in SPORT mode as in the standard W12 model, in keeping with the Speed’s ethos. This combines with a greater exhaust character during start-up and downshifts.
Not only does the Continental GT Speed offer impressive performance, to maximise efficiency the model benefits from Bentley’s Stop-Start technology where the engine rests not only when the vehicle is stationary, but also at near-to-stop speeds.
Bentley’s Variable Displacement system shuts down half of the engine’s 12 cylinders under certain conditions with the transitions between the two being imperceptible to the driver. Intake and exhaust valves, fuel injection and ignition are all shut down on defined cylinders, with the engine running as a six-cylinder for improved fuel efficiency.
Exterior Detail – GT Speed’s Statement of Intent
The muscular bodywork of the Continental GT has been amplified still further on the GT Speed. Unique exterior detailing complements a powerful, athletic stance, blending seamlessly with the effortless elegance inherent to the Continental GT.
Speed models add a Dark Tint radiator grille and lower bumper grille, as well as unique, more sculpted sports sills, a Dark Tint radiator matrix and discreet Speed badging in chrome on the front fender.
Another signature feature of the most potent version of the Continental GT is unique, 22” Speed wheels in bright silver, with the option of a dark tint or black gloss finish. “Jewel” versions of the fuel and oil filler caps are standard, while illuminated Bentley treadplates to both sills are a nod to the Speed’s performance credentials.
A Unique and Luxurious Cabin
The cabin of the new Continental GT Speed showcases Bentley’s expertise in creating the world’s finest automotive interiors. Handcrafted materials blend with unique trim and badging that are only available in the Speed and can be further personalised if desired.
The Continental GT Speed’s credentials are further highlighted by a unique duotone colour split handcrafted in hide and matching Alcantara, which is also applied to the steering wheel. The exterior badging is matched with an elegant Speed icon on the passenger fascia.
The luxurious interior can be further personalised with a choice of 15 main and 11 secondary hide colours, as well as the use of leather in lieu of Alcantara for the Speed colour split. The centre console can be finished in new dark tint engine turned aluminium, bringing a geometrically perfect machined surface and a beautifully patterned finish.
Bentley’s Diamond in Diamond quilting is included as standard, and Speed embroidered headrests distinguish the cabin of the most potent Continental GT.
A range of veneers are available in GT Speed, starting with Piano Black veneer as standard. Customers can also choose Crown Cut Walnut, Dark Stained Burr Walnut and Dark Fiddleback Eucalyptus at no extra cost, with three open pore options (Dark Burr Walnut, Crown Cut Walnut and Koa) available as additional options.
As with all Continental GTs, the Speed offers four seats and exceptional grand touring luggage capacity of 358 litres. Packed with exquisite detail, a technologically advanced instrument panel and the acclaimed Bentley Rotating Display, the new driver-focused model widens the Continental GT’s performance credentials.

- Heart of Racing stars in close GTD battle during US endurance classic
- Vantage GT3 records second podium finish of 2021 international season
- Aston Martin Racing works driver Ross Gunn records first IMSA podium
The Aston Martin Vantage GT3 recorded its second international podium finish of 2021 as partner team Heart of Racing recorded a brilliant third place in the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring on Saturday evening.
It was also the second time in a row that the Seattle-based team had finished on the podium at the Florida venue.
The #23 Heart of Racing Vantage, driven by team principal Ian James (GB), Roman De Angelis (CN) and Aston Martin Racing works driver Ross Gunn (GB), ran near the front of the GTD class for the majority of the race, having quickly worked their way up from P9 at the start. A smooth run through the event with strong stints from both his team-mates allowed Gunn to inherit the lead when he climbed into the car for his final stint, only to drop to third as the pitstops cycled through.
But then a late Full Course Yellow with 30 minutes to go in the incident-packed race meant that the Englishman had to withstand immense pressure in the final stages. This only subsided when a rival Porsche was served with a penalty on the penultimate lap, freeing Gunn up to take his first IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship podium.
“This was an awesome result and the team thoroughly deserved it,” said Gunn. “We looked strong at Daytona back in January, and we’ve performed well all day again today, so the Aston Martin Vantage was good for this result. The more we race it over here in the US, the faster it seems to get, so let’s hope it can land a victory soon!”
James added: “Great day here at Sebring to get consecutive 12 Hour podiums for the Heart of Racing Aston Martin. I’m super proud of all the team. Roman and Ross drove really well and everyone executed all race long. This puts us in a good points position heading into the next race and leaves us excited for the rest of the season.”
Aston Martin Racing President David King added: “The Sebring 12 Hours is a gruelling event and tough for drivers, cars and teams, as it proved again this year, so to finish on the podium is an excellent performance from our partners Heart of Racing. It’s also another demonstration of the Aston Martin Vantage GT3’s growing competitiveness as a customer-based GT car in the USA and fully justifies our commitment to customer racing around the world in 2021.”
The next race in the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship is at Mid-Ohio on 14-16 May.
