Powerful, purposeful, practical: the Tiguan R opens for order to UK customers

Powerful, purposeful, practical: the Tiguan R opens for order to UK customers

  • Dynamic and agile Tiguan R is available now, from £45,915 RRP OTR
  • 320 PS performance SUV completes 0-62 mph sprint in 4.9 seconds
  • 7-spd DSG and 4MOTION four-wheel drive follow classic R formula

2021 marks the first time in its 13-year history that the Tiguan, the best-selling SUV across the Volkswagen brand and Volkswagen Group globally, has been given a stand-alone performance model: the Tiguan R.

This athletic SUV, which produces 320 PS and is bestowed with Volkswagen’s latest 4MOTION R-Performance Torque Vectoring system, is now available to order for UK customers, priced from £45,915 RRP OTR.

The Tiguan R is powered by Volkswagen’s highly-regarded EA888 evo4 four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. In this guise it produces 320 PS and 420 Nm of torque, enabling 0 to 62 mph acceleration of 4.9 seconds and a limited top speed (where permitted) of 155 mph. The Tiguan R matches its T-Roc R stablemate in these figures, and is just two-tenths of a second behind the Golf R on the 0 to 62 mph sprint, proving the versatility and flexibility of the R brand.

The R’s winning formula of a sophisticated 7-speed DSG transmission, muscular petrol engine and 4MOTION four-wheel drive are bolstered by the new R-Performance Torque Vectoring system, which distributes power to all four wheels. The system not only manages this between the front and rear axles, but also between the two rear wheels. Up to 100% of available torque can be directed to the rear wheel on the outside of a bend, which leads to noticeably more agile handling and eliminates understeer.

This new R model features adaptive chassis control (DCC) as standard, and rides 10 mm lower than any other Tiguan. DCC always provides the highest level of driving comfort and optimum driving dynamics. In addition, the characteristics of the shock absorbers have been adapted individually to the Tiguan R.

Sitting on standard-fit 21-inch ‘Estoril’ wheels, the Tiguan R decelerates with the same convincing force as it accelerates, thanks to an 18-inch performance braking system, identifiable by its blue-painted callipers with R-logo on the front units. Hallmark R quad tailpipes are a hint at the model’s power, while the door mirror caps are finished in matt chrome – another key identifier of the revered R brand. An assertive and unique R body kit incorporates sportier front and rear bumpers, with a black rear diffuser adding to the SUV’s purposeful aesthetic. Among the items optionally available for the Tiguan R is an Akrapovič performance titanium exhaust system, which is lighter in weight than the standard set-up and augments the sound the high-performance engine makes.

As in the Golf R, the Tiguan R’s sports seats are finished in a blue-black ‘Sardegna’ cloth with ArtVelours outer areas, while the driver has new levels of interaction with the bespoke, heated R steering wheel, thanks to a new ‘R’ button. This feature enables swift access to the model’s seven diverse and useful drive modes without the need to take hands off the wheel. The steering column features extended paddle shifters to add to the driver-focus of the Tiguan R’s cabin.

The Tiguan R’s standard equipment list builds upon the already impressive R-Line trim and includes Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC); IQ.Light matrix LED headlights; Digital Cockpit Pro with specific R functions; Keyless entry and start; rear view camera; 30-colour ambient lighting; heated steering wheel; heated front seats; and Travel Assist.

The Tiguan R follows the new Golf R in the Volkswagen R line-up, and is the third model in the current range to be given a stand-alone R variant. The two new models join the T-Roc R as the performance flagships of their respective nameplates, as the R division is set to expand further later this year – this time into the Touareg and Arteon ranges. More information on these upcoming models will be released nearer to their on-sale dates.

Andrew Savvas, Managing Director at Volkswagen UK, said: “The Tiguan has long been regarded as Volkswagen’s ultimate all-rounder, possessing space, power, quality, flexibility and the security of 4MOTION four-wheel drive. Now, the Tiguan has another feather in its cap – a genuine performance SUV model, honed for spirited drivers by Volkswagen’s respected R division, complete with the impressive R-Performance Torque Vectoring system. This makes it an even more thrilling and sporty driving experience.

“The arrival of the R goes one step further to demonstrate the versatility of the Tiguan range, only a week after two new punchy petrol variants were added to the line-up. With a range of talents like this, it’s little wonder that the Tiguan was the best-selling Volkswagen SUV across the globe last year.”

Countdown commences to UK’s first National Ferrari Owners’ Day

Countdown commences to UK’s first National Ferrari Owners’ Day

There are just 100 days to go before the UK’s first-ever National Ferrari Owners’ Day, to be held at the historic Sywell Aerodrome in Northamptonshire on Saturday 5th June 2021.

Careful planning is well underway for this COVID-secure outdoor event, organised by the Ferrari Owners’ Club of Great Britain, but welcoming all Ferrari owners from across the UK to attend as the British motoring scene restarts.

The inaugural National Ferrari Owners’ Day is set to see the biggest gathering of ‘Tipos’ (Ferrari types) in the UK for many years. At the heart of the event will be a curated Ferrari Timeline, representing every possible model and era of production from Italy’s most illustrious marque. Ferrari visitors to the show can display their pride and joy in the Meguiars’ Pride of Ownership Trophy – not a concours, but an opportunity for owners who keep their car in excellent order to compete for the free-to-enter Meguiars’ Trophy.

Ferrari owners can pre-register for the Superformance Runway Speed Experience. If you have never driven your Ferrari at speed this is the perfect opportunity to try it in a controlled environment on Sywell’s 1,200-metre runway. Across the aerodrome there will be numerous casual food and drink options, as well as exhibits and displays from Official Ferrari Dealerships, Club Partners and other lifestyle brands.

Silverstone Auctions are holding a best of breed Sale of Ferraris in Hanger One, with lots expected from across the UK and Europe. Given Sywell’s distinguished aviation history, there’s even the opportunity to take to the skies – with a limited number of two-seat Spitfire and Mustang warbird flights available. As the event coincides with the anniversary of D-Day, we will be reflecting this with an air display by the ultimate fighters comprising Spitfire, Thunderbolt, Mustang and Messerschmitt amongst others.

“We hope that the first-ever National Ferrari Owners’ Day will prove to be a fitting restart to the British motoring scene, bringing together lovers of Italy’s most revered marque in this new, dynamic event,” said Christian Mineeff, Chairman of the Ferrari Owners’ Club of Great Britain. “Having moved the inaugural show from 2020 to 2021 has given us the opportunity to make it even bigger and better than originally planned. Given the current pandemic situation we’re taking additional steps to ensure visitors remain safe, with the expansive nature of the historic Sywell Aerodrome site making this easier.

“All the ingredients are there to make this a permanent fixture in our annual calendar – and a brilliant taster of a busy season we have planned for our members in 2021, including the first Ferrari Club Competitzione event at Croft just a few weeks later.”

Tickets are free for Ferrari Owners’ Club of Great Britain members, and cost just £25 per car for non-members.  The event is supported by Pirelli, Ferrari Financial Services, Charles Stanley Wealth Managers, Lockton, Meguiar’s and Superformance. The new ŠKODA Fabia: bigger, sportier and even safer

The new ŠKODA Fabia: bigger, sportier and even safer

  • 22 years after the Fabia’s debut, ŠKODA presents the fourth generation of this popular small car
  • First Fabia based on the MQB-A0 platform boasts plenty of space and efficient engines
  • New Simply Clever features and advanced assistance systems from higher-tier vehicles make this all-new model particularly appealing

The new ŠKODA Fabia in its fourth generation presents a striking design, bigger interior, increased comfort and, thanks to advanced safety and assistance systems, even greater levels of safety.

22 years after its debut, the popular small car combines classic ŠKODA qualities such as reliability, ease of use and outstanding practicality with enhanced safety, comfort and dynamism.

Johannes Neft, ŠKODA Board Member for Technical Development, emphasised: “Boasting an emotive design language, the new Fabia is a true ŠKODA at first glance. Compared to its predecessor, we have significantly improved the interior – offering a high level of comfort, advanced infotainment and innovative assistance systems. An even more spacious interior, engines that are as efficient as they are powerful, and excellent handling round off the car’s appeal. Our new entry‑level model has everything you could want from a modern small car – and more.”

Small car with cult status
Since its premiere in 1999, the Fabia has been uniting ŠKODA’s brand values. It combines great levels of active and passive safety with a generously sized interior and excellent value for money. It also offers compact exterior dimensions, efficient powertrains and numerous Simply Clever features.

Full LED headlights and tail lights, Virtual Cockpit and new colours
Clear-cut headlights, which extend to the radiator grille, characterise the front view of the new Fabia. Even the standard variant features modern LED technology; full LED headlights with a comprehensive range of functions are available on request. A full LED variant is also available as an option for the tail lights, which feature crystalline structures typical of the brand. The new interior design of the ŠKODA Fabia enhances the small car’s feeling of spaciousness even further. The symmetrical instrument panel with its central, free-standing display, and the horizontal, differently coloured decorative strips (depending on the trim line), emphasise the width of the interior. Furthermore, the Virtual Cockpit is making its Fabia debut.

Oliver Stefani, Head of ŠKODA Design, who has completely reinterpreted ŠKODA’s effective crystalline design language with the successful small car, said: “ŠKODA has consistently continued to develop its design language with the new Fabia. The compact hatchback is particularly sporty and elegant visually. Sculptural lines, dynamic proportions and modern light units with LED technology and the crystalline structures typical of ŠKODA make for a dynamic and modern appearance.”

First ŠKODA Fabia based on the MQB-A0 platform
The influence of the MQB-A0 platform on the vehicle proportions can be seen in the Fabia’s new dimensions. Despite the increase in size, the ŠKODA engineers have succeeded in maintaining the weight close to that of the third-generation model.

Two MPI petrol engines and three TSIs with direct injection
With a portfolio of five efficient petrol engines (from 48 kW to 110 kW) to choose from, and its agile handling, the new ŠKODA Fabia is ideally equipped to cover both short and long distances. Its compact dimensions make it ideal for urban traffic. All five engines are from Volkswagen Group’s new EVO generation and for the most part offer a combined fuel consumption of approximately five litres per 100 km in the WLTP cycle. With the introduction of the new generation, the ŠKODA Fabia is now also available with a new top-of-the-range engine. The 1.5 TSI produces 110 kW (150 PS) from its four cylinders and is combined with a 7-speed DSG as standard.

Lowest drag coefficient within its segment
Compared to its predecessor, the Fabia’s drag coefficient (cd) has dropped from 0.32 to 0.28, making it the most aerodynamically efficient small car in its segment. The aerodynamics have been improved using highly accurate CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations. The numerous innovative details developed include actively adjustable cooling shutters in the front bumper’s lower air intake.

Excellent active and passive safety
The car’s occupants are protected by up to nine airbags in the event of an accident. Additional ISOFIX anchors and top tether anchor points are available and also, for the first time, for the front passenger seat. Its comprehensive safety equipment makes the Fabia one of the safest vehicles in its segment.

13 new Simply Clever features
For many years, ŠKODA has been making everyday life that little bit easier for its customers with a constant stream of new and ingenious Simply Clever features. The new Fabia continues this tradition and, in its fourth generation, offers no fewer than 13 new solutions, some of which have found their way into the Fabia for the first time from other ŠKODA models. The new-generation Fabia offers a total of 43 Simply Clever features.

The model’s history: a success story continues

  • Three generations and more than 4.5 million units of the ŠKODA Fabia sold since 1999
  • The Fabia is an important cornerstone for the Czech brand’s international success
  • Germany is the largest sales market, ahead of the Czech Republic and the UK

The fourth-generation ŠKODA Fabia continues an extraordinary success story that began back in 1999. Since its market launch 22 years ago, the Czech carmaker has produced more than 4.5 million units of the popular small car. This makes the Fabia one of the bestselling vehicles in its segment. Germany has been the popular small car’s largest sales market for many years. Thanks to numerous further developments, the latest generation has all the prerequisites to continue this impressive success story.

Since its premiere in 1999, the Fabia has been uniting ŠKODA’s brand values. It combines a generously sized interior with great levels of active and passive safety and excellent value for money. It also offers compact exterior dimensions, efficient powertrains and numerous Simply Clever features. Thanks to these qualities, the Fabia has established itself as a key pillar of the Czech carmaker’s success and is now one of the bestselling models in its segment. The Fabia is the second-most produced ŠKODA model after the Octavia, with more than 4.5 million units since its launch 22 years ago. In 2019 alone, more than 166,000 vehicles rolled off the production line; 37,800 went to customers in Germany, the largest sales market, ahead of the Czech Republic (24,600) and the UK (20,000).

A face of the brand with a loyal customer group since 1999
The first-generation ŠKODA Fabia celebrated its premiere in 1999; the ŠKODA Fabia estate made its debut a year later. With 1.79 million vehicles produced in roughly eight years, the Fabia mark I proved to be a success right from the start. This was followed by the second generation presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2007, which saw sales of 1,704,000 units in total. The third-generation Fabia has been popular since 2014 and was given a revamp in 2018 with a host of new safety features and advanced infotainment systems. Over one million cars of this generation have been produced to date.

Since the launch of the Fabia, ŠKODA has continuously developed the material concept of the body. In the new generation, the use of high-strength and hot-formed steels contributes to high torsional stiffness. The new Fabia shares chassis components with the ŠKODA Scala, for example, and is one of the first cars in its segment to feature the actively adjustable cooling shutters in the front bumper’s lower air intake, which help to optimise aerodynamics and improve cooling efficiency, from the new Octavia.

Powertrain range: five efficient petrol engines

  • Wide range of powertrains from 48 kW (65 PS) to 110 kW (150 PS)
  • All engines from Volkswagen Group’s new EVO generation

The new ŠKODA Fabia offers a choice of five efficient petrol engines. With this, ŠKODA has not only increased the number of different engines compared to the predecessor, but the range of power outputs – from 48 kW (65 PS) to 110 kW (150 PS) – is also significantly wider than before. All five engines are from Volkswagen Group’s new EVO generation and for the most part allow for a combined fuel consumption of approximately five litres per 100 km in the WLTP cycle. This makes the new Fabia up to 10 per cent more economical than the model’s predecessor.

The range of engines available for the new ŠKODA Fabia includes two multipoint injection (MPI) petrol engines and three TSIs with direct injection. The new entry-level engine is a 1.0 MPI with three cylinders and an output of 48 kW (65 PS). This is an increase of 4 kW (5 PS) compared to its predecessor. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a new manual 5-speed gearbox, which is also used in the variant featuring the second MPI engine. This generates an output of 59 kW (80 PS). Both MPI engines in the new ŠKODA Fabia comply with the current Euro 6d emissions standard.

New type of plasma coating on 1.0 TSI engines
The two EVO-generation three-cylinder 1.0 TSI engines feature an innovative plasma coating. The cylinder liners have been powder-coated with a thin layer measuring just 150 μm (0.15 mm). This reduces internal friction, which lowers fuel consumption, emissions and, by better distribution and dissipation of heat in the combustion chamber, the thermal load on the engine. The 1.0 TSI producing 70 kW (95 PS) comes with a manual 5-speed gearbox, while the more powerful 1.0 TSI delivering 81 kW (110 PS) is coupled with a manual 6-speed gearbox. The 1.0 TSI with a power output of 81 kW (110 PS) can also be equipped with a 7‑speed DSG as an option.

New top-of-the-range engine producing 110 kW (150 PS)
With the change to the fourth-generation model, the ŠKODA Fabia is now also available with a new top-of-the-range engine. The 1.5 TSI produces 110 kW (150 PS) from its four cylinders and is combined with a 7-speed DSG as standard. This engine, which is also used in other ŠKODA models, features active cylinder technology (ACT). When engine load is low, this automatically, and virtually without the driver noticing, shuts down two cylinders, thereby reducing fuel consumption. All TSI engines in the new ŠKODA Fabia have petrol particulate filters and comply with the current Euro 6d emissions standard.

Aerodynamics: innovations increase efficiency

  • New ŠKODA Fabia has lowest drag coefficient within its segment with a cd of 0.28
  • Cooling shutters with active slats regulate air supply in the front bumper’s lower air intake
  • Aerodynamics have largely been developed using virtual fluid dynamics simulations

Thanks to a host of ingenious aerodynamic details, ŠKODA has significantly reduced the new Fabia’s consumption and emission values. Compared to its predecessor, the Fabia’s drag coefficient (cd) has dropped from 0.32 to 0.28, making it the most aerodynamically efficient small car in its segment. The aerodynamics have predominately been developed using accurate CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations.

Aerodynamics, a sub-field of fluid dynamics, describes the interaction between the air and solid bodies moving through it, and plays an increasingly important role in automotive engineering. The more aerodynamically sophisticated a vehicle is, the lower its drag. The energy required for locomotion is reduced, and fuel consumption and emission levels are lowered. In addition, good aerodynamic properties also have a positive effect on the handling of a vehicle. The aerodynamics have been improved using what is known as CFD simulations. Within approximately three and a half years, the ŠKODA engineers computed more than 3,000 of these fluid dynamics simulations. The result? With a cd of 0.28, the Fabia has the lowest drag coefficient in its segment.

Cooling shutters save up to 0.2 l of fuel per 100 km at 120 km/h
The addition of a new type of cooling shutter has been an important measure. These shutters are actively adjustable slats in the front bumper’s lower air intake. When there is little need for cooling, they close automatically, thereby improving the car’s aerodynamics. This results in fuel savings of up to 0.2 l per 100 km when travelling at a constant speed of 120 km/h. To allow for a high level of cooling or to accommodate short stops, the system opens the shutters so that the maximum amount of air can flow in.

Significant reduction of rear drag and large underbody cladding
Approximately one third of a vehicle’s overall drag is caused by turbulence at the rear. That is why the new ŠKODA Fabia has a larger roof spoiler and side finlets that optimise the air flow at the rear. These components are made of plastic and can be manufactured very accurately. Specifically designed aerodynamic wing mirror housings reduce drag and direct the air flow to the rear in a targeted manner. At the front, the air is guided to flow through vents in the front bumper, known as air curtains, in a particularly aerodynamic manner close to the side of the body and the wheels. As the wheels alone generate around 25 per cent of the drag, ŠKODA is now also offering wheels with aerodynamically optimised plastic inserts for the Fabia – this is a first for the model. Twelve panels now cover a larger part of the underbody instead of three, especially in the areas that are crucial for aerodynamics, such as the engine bay and the axles.

Safety: up to nine airbags and new assistance systems

  • The new Fabia offers excellent level of active and passive safety
  • Family-friendly with ISOFIX anchors and top tether anchor points even for the front passenger seat
  • Travel Assist, Park Assist and Manoeuvre Assist available for the first time

ŠKODA has once again improved passenger safety in the new Fabia and further expanded the range of available assistance systems. The safety and comfort features now also include new assistance systems that were previously reserved for higher-tier vehicles. Travel Assist and Park Assist, for example, have been added to the model range. The vehicle can be equipped with up to nine airbags to protect the occupants in the event of an accident. This is the first ŠKODA Fabia to offer additional ISOFIX anchors and top tether anchor points even for the front passenger seat. Boasting excellent active and passive safety, the new ŠKODA Fabia is one of the safest vehicles in the small car segment.

In terms of active and passive safety, ŠKODA also utilises the capabilities of Volkswagen Group’s MQB-A0 platform for the new Fabia. This platform enables the use of the latest passive and active assistance systems and offers a robust body structure with high torsional resistance and great stability. ŠKODA uses high-strength, advanced high-strength or specially hardened hot-formed steels for this purpose.

In the event of an accident, the occupants are protected by up to nine airbags. Airbags for the driver and front passenger as well as curtain airbags and front side airbags are standard. Optional extras include a knee airbag for the driver and rear side airbags, as well as ISOFIX anchors and top tether anchor points for the front passenger seat. ISOFIX anchors and top tether anchor points for the rear seats come as standard. This means that this small and family-friendly car can accommodate three securely fastened child seats.

Travel Assist supports longitudinal and lateral steering
By offering Travel Assist for the Fabia, ŠKODA now also provides automated support for longitudinal and lateral steering of the vehicle. The optional system can be activated at the touch of a button and combines, among other things, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), which – up to 210 km/h – automatically adjusts the speed of the car to that of vehicles ahead, and Lane Assist. As the name suggests, this helps to keep the Fabia in lane by performing corrective steering inputs if needed. The improved Blind Spot Detection feature is available as an option. This warns the driver of vehicles that are up to 70 m away and wanting to overtake or that are in the car’s blind spot. Park Assist works at speeds of up to 40 km/h and lends the driver a hand when parking. This system displays suitable parallel and bay parking spaces and, if desired, takes over the driver’s steering work when parking. In addition, Manoeuvre Assist uses sensors to detect an obstacle in front of or behind the car during parking and applies the brakes automatically. Traffic Sign Recognition is another first for the Fabia.

Simply Clever: 13 new and useful solutions

  • The new ŠKODA Fabia offers a total of 43 clever solutions – more than ever before
  • USB-C socket on the rear-view mirror and smartphone pockets for rear passengers
  • Folding backrest of the front passenger seat and multifunction storage pocket under the boot cover

ŠKODA also equips the Fabia with a large number of its brand-typical Simply Clever features and has once again significantly expanded the range of ingenious details with the launch of the model’s fourth generation. A total of 13 new solutions are making their Fabia debut – five of which are a ŠKODA first – bringing the overall options of practical details in the small car to 43. The Fabia offers popular ŠKODA classics such as the ice scraper in the fuel filler flap with a tyre tread depth gauge and the ticket holder on the A-pillar. The folding backrest of the front passenger seat, a multifunction storage pocket under the boot cover, an additional USB-C socket on the rear-view mirror and, for the rear passengers, two smartphone storage pockets on the front seatbacks have found their way into the small car from other ŠKODA models.

For many years, ŠKODA AUTO has been making everyday use of a car that little bit easier for its customers with a constant stream of new and ingenious Simply Clever features. The new Fabia continues this tradition and, in its fourth generation, offers no fewer than 13 new solutions, some of which have found their way into the small car for the first time from other ŠKODA models. Michal Brejcha, Marketing Product Manager at ŠKODA AUTO, said: “Simply Clever solutions have been part of ŠKODA’s brand DNA for two decades. For every new feature, our primary aim is to make it as convenient as possible for our customers to use their vehicle in everyday life. Their wishes guide us and we also explore ideas from the everyday lives of our colleagues. PEUGEOT roars into 2021 with new brand identity including a rare update for iconic lion emblem

The world’s oldest surviving automotive brand is reaffirming its personality and character with a new logo. It is starting a new chapter of history.

PEUGEOT New Brand Identity

PEUGEOT has launched a new logo and brand identity in only the 11th update to its iconic lion emblem since 1850. Created by the PEUGEOT Design Lab and featuring a roaring lion’s head inside a coat of arms, the new design is part of PEUGEOT’s latest brand identity developed around the concept of ‘time’ and living in the moment.

The new visual language reflects PEUGEOT’s bold electrification strategy and its desire to enhance the ownership experience through pioneering new technologies.

The new PEUGEOT logo features an all-new take on the iconic PEUGEOT lion, with a roaring lion’s head inside a new PEUGEOT coat of arms. The emblem has been created to acknowledge PEUGEOT’s evolution as a brand, its innovative and successful model line-up and its continuing transition to electrification, having committed to offering an electrified variant across its entire model line-up by 2025.

The new look will be accompanied by an international campaign and new-look website, as well as a new lifestyle collection of clothing and accessories later this year. The new logo also showcases PEUGEOT as a timeless brand, celebrating its more than 210-year history, while also looking to the future, towards new technologies and innovations provided by the new Stellantis partnership.

The logo has been designed to last and will feature proudly across all new models, starting with the all-new PEUGEOT 308, which will make its world premiere later this year.

Julie David, Managing Director, PEUGEOT UK, said: “A new logo and brand identity are significant developments for any marque, let alone PEUGEOT, who has a history spanning more than 210 years. The new logo reflects our changing model line-up and new philosophy around living in the moment, and we are very excited to showcase both the logo and the brand identity to our customers this year.”

The new brand identity celebrates the concept of ‘time’ and living in the moment. Time is an increasingly rare commodity in today’s world and PEUGEOT is looking to help people make the most of every day, through new technologies and innovations. It is working to streamline the customer journey, from purchasing their new car to every aspect of driving and owning a vehicle.

The new identity will span everything from retailers and signage to the creation of a new PEUGEOT website that will make interacting with the brand even easier. Already, through its Buy Online platform, customers can configure a new PEUGEOT vehicle, obtain a part exchange valuation, personalise their finance package and complete their purchase online using a laptop, smartphone or tablet, all from the comfort of their own home.

PEUGEOT has produced its first brand campaign in 10 years: THE LIONS OF OUR TIME.
A new ‘LIONS OF OUR TIME’ campaign and new website will launch in March, and will feature both new and existing PEUGEOT customers. The campaign aims to celebrate ‘Today’s Lions’ of all ages and cultures and highlight the value of quality time in our lives.

The international campaign will be followed by a new PEUGEOT lifestyle collection, featuring everything from clothing and leather goods to electronic accessories and stationery. The new collection will echo PEUGEOT’s attention to detail and design when it launches later in the year.

Fuel savings, CO2 savings and carbon neutral at the point of purchase: the new Michelin e.Primacy hits the shelves

Fuel savings, CO2 savings and carbon neutral at the point of purchase: the new Michelin e.Primacy hits the shelves

Motorists can now make an eco-responsible choice, save money and increase range as Michelin’s e.Primacy tyre hits the shelves.

The Michelin e.Primacy was engineered to be carbon neutral at the point of purchase, taking into account emissions from raw material extraction to delivery to the customer.

To achieve this, in addition to efficient manufacturing processes, Michelin has invested in projects that avoid, absorb or offset carbon emissions, including tree replanting and the installation of less energy-intensive cooking equipment in various countries.

Environmental responsibility was at the heart of the design process from day one, resulting in a tyre with the lowest rolling resistance in its category, reduced CO2 emissions and fuel savings for the customer.

Michelin-commissioned tests show that drivers using e.Primacy save around 0.21 litres of fuel per 100kms, and about £70 over the life of the tyre.

The exceptionally low rolling resistance of the Michelin e.Primacy equates to 174kg less CO2 emitted over the life of the tyre, and an increased range of up to seven per cent for electric cars.

Packed with technology – including “energy passive” high elasticity compounds, improved elastomer-filler coupling, thinner top belts, cool-running sidewalls and a hermetic belt to reduce energy loss – the Michelin e.Primacy also delivers exceptional driving performance that’s made to last.

Michelin Group Executive Committee member Scott Clark, said: “This is a world first that will open the way to a new generation of products.

“Environmental issues are central to our strategic priorities. To reduce its environmental footprint more quickly, Michelin has pledged to lower CO2 emissions from all its production facilities by 50 per cent by 2030 compared with 2010, with the ultimate goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

“Michelin is also developing solutions to use renewable or recycled materials to manufacture its tyres, while enhancing their performance even more. By 2030, MICHELIN tyres will be 20 per cent  more energy-efficient than they were in 2010.”

The Michelin e.Primacy is available now in a range of sizes, from 15 inches to 20 inches.

New Defender V8
New Defender V8 is the ultimate expression of Land Rover’s toughest 4×4 and recalls the rich heritage of eight-cylinder Land Rovers dating back to the 1970s. The potent new V8 supercharged engine is available in both 90 and 110 body designs and delivers elevated performance and driver engagement without compromising Defender’s unstoppable capability.

With unique suspension and transmission tuning, including bespoke spring and damper rates and a new Electronic Active Rear Differential, it delivers more agile and engaging handling with heightened body control – all accompanied by a characteristic V8 soundtrack.

Power comes from Land Rover’s 5.0-litre V8 supercharged petrol engine, which produces 525HP, 625Nm of torque and drives through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Defender V8 90 accelerates from 0-60mph in just 4.9 seconds (0-100km/h in 5.2 seconds) with a top speed of 149mph (240km/h) and delivers fuel consumption of up to 19.5mpg (14.5l/100km) with CO2 emissions from 327g/km**.

Exceptional off-road capability is a Defender hallmark and the V8 adds a new layer of driver appeal, with the introduction of a new Dynamic mode within the Terrain Response system – only available on V8-powered Defenders. It helps drivers to exploit the more dynamic character and handling balance of the 525HP model on tarmac and loose surfaces. Engineered to be the fastest and most engaging production Defender ever, it delivers unrivalled agility and driver appeal.

Iain Gray, Senior Manager, Powertrain Advanced Engineering, Jaguar Land Rover, said: “The 5.0-litre V8 supercharged engine further enhances the unique character of the Defender. It sounds fantastic and delivers incredible performance – providing new levels of driver appeal. Our engineering focus has been to optimise powertrain calibration for Defender to deliver both responsive on-road performance and fine control off-road – all without compromising Defender’s unstoppable all-terrain capability and wading ability.”

Larger-diameter and solid anti-roll bars help reduce body roll in extreme cornering, while the unique Electronic Active Rear Differential introduces a Yaw Controller that allows fine control of the Defender V8’s cornering attitude as it reaches and exceeds the limit of grip.

Careful calibration of the new Dynamic mode in Terrain Response 2, gives Defender V8 a more agile, playful and responsive character. In this setting, a sharper throttle response and bespoke tuning for the Continuously Variable Damping combine with the stiffer suspension bushes for immediate steering responses. Working in harmony with the Torque Vectoring by Braking technology, Traction Control Systems and new Yaw Controller, the Defender V8 is faster, more engaging and more controllable than ever.

Instantly recognisable, the Defender V8 features a number of unique exterior enhancements; bespoke exterior badging, quad exhausts with distinctive tailpipes and unique 22-inch alloy wheels with a Satin Dark Grey finish combine to set the most powerful model in the line-up apart. The Defender V8 is further identified by its Xenon Blue brake calipers on the front.

Careful acoustic tuning of Defender V8’s induction and exhaust systems provides a purposeful and authentic sound. Calibrated to suit every driving situation, this evocative soundtrack can be enhanced by selecting Dynamic mode in the Terrain Response system.

Customers have a choice of three colours – Carpathian Grey, Yulong White and Santorini Black – with the grey and white options offering a contrast roof in Narvik Black. Shadow Atlas exterior detailing completes New Defender V8’s distinctive exterior finish.

Inside, Defender V8 features seats trimmed in unique Ebony Windsor Leather with Dinamica® suedecloth and Robustec  accents, while the Defender’s exposed Cross Car Beam has a special Satin Black finish. The four-spoke steering wheel is enhanced by an Alcantara rim and tactile satin chrome gearshift paddles, which are unique to V8 models. Project Moderna underway with key engine and design updates revealed by GTO Engineering

Project Moderna underway with key engine and design updates revealed by GTO Engineering

Since revealing the renderings, specification ethos and registering significant customer interest for its Moderna-codenamed project, GTO Engineering has confirmed a pivotal development stage has been completed for its new car, and confirmed production.

Keeping to the promise that its new car will be a celebration of the best of Sixties motoring with a modern and motorsport-derived engineering twist, the quad-cam V12 engine that will be at the heart of GTO Engineering’s all-new vehicle is getting closer to being finalised and built. Likewise, the outer design modelling is about to commence as the team finalises the drawings of the body shell, which still maintains a mix of modern and period features as seen in the initial sketches. The engine development and design styling are both centred around GTO Engineering’s commitment to create a sub-1,000 kg sports car with a manual gearbox and a naturally aspirated engine, devised around a visceral experience in and out of the car.

With a track record of building cars from the ground up, either with restorations or its popular Revival series vehicles, GTO Engineering’s development of the Moderna project is led by Founder Mark Lyon who said,

“After the exceptional reception from interested owners and fans who would like to own a car such as ours, we’re now making it happen and publicly documenting the development process. For our team the engine and the aesthetics are two of the most important parts of any car, especially this one, which is why we were keen to start here.

“The quad-cam V12, with the help of our specialist in-house engine builders, is beginning to be finalised. At the same time our designers have been working with us on the outer body to finalise the surfaces before transferring it to modelling. To ensure we keep to our goals we’re working around a custom ‘muletto’ chassis, which is situated in the GTO Engineering workshops. It’s a daily reminder of how we need to not only keep the design’s proportions right, as well as weight distribution and ergonomics. People have got a little taller since the Sixties, so we’re looking at the packaging with the design too, ensuring that the driver and passenger have enough room in the cabin and ample luggage space in the car.”

GTO Engineering’s team has chosen to maintain a traditional tubular steel chassis while adding modern, lightweight but high strength aluminium subframes. Its development chassis, nicknamed ‘muletto’ is the formation of the packaging and design layout for the Moderna-codenamed project. It sits in the firm’s UK HQ and is used as a layout buck to ensure packaging and size of the new vehicle is optimised for weight distribution as well as driver and passenger ergonomics and storage.

This development update follows the initial renderings and intentions for the new vehicle, which was initially announced in November 2020. Since then, the team continues to grow with in-house and external consultants collaborating together, all working on the same goal to create one of the most exciting enthusiast cars of the decade.

GTO Engineering has also formally opened its order books since it feels confident in the car’s capabilities and production schedule for deliveries. All interested drivers should contact Ferrari@gtoengineering.com or call +44 (0) 118 940 1101 to discuss the specification and ordering process with the team.

Ariya expected to be the most aerodynamic Nissan crossover ever built

Ariya expected to be the most aerodynamic Nissan crossover ever built

  • Nissan’s engineering and design teams worked to maximise Ariya’s driving range with a decade of electric vehicle know-how
  • Targeted drag coefficient of 0.297 means Ariya is expected to become the most aerodynamic Nissan crossover
  • Ariya’s meticulously-shaped design seamlessly slices through the air, helping to maximise driving efficiency

Drawing on a decade of technical expertise in electric vehicle and crossover innovation, Ariya is expected to become the company’s most aerodynamic crossover, targeting a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.297*.

From the precisely shaped body lines to strategically placed air ducts, Ariya’s advanced aerodynamics are anticipated to enhance the long-range performance of its all-electric powertrain. All these efforts, led by the engineering teams from around the globe, will result in an expected increase of range that will be made official later in the year.

“Following official homologation of the Nissan Ariya later this year, we anticipate the range to improve compared to the 310 mile figure shared in 2020 during the World Premiere. This will give drivers more efficiency and confidence to go even further on a single charge,” said Marco Fioravanti, VP Product Planning, Nissan Europe.

Each element of Ariya’s shape was adjusted in microscopic detail by the engineering teams at Nissan Technical Centre Europe in the UK. Ariya’s flat underbody produces a stable and predictable ride, while the front-facing aerodynamic intelligent shield and clean body lines reduce drag. Refined by design teams in Japan and the UK, the result is a clean shape that helps the vehicle slice through the air, optimising it for highly efficient driving.

“With the growing shift towards electric mobility, aerodynamic testing is becoming increasingly important. The aerodynamics of electric vehicles are directly linked to how efficiently the vehicle moves – less drag and better stability allows the customer to drive longer distances before having to recharge,” said Sarwar Ahmed, Aerodynamics and Aeroacoustics Engineer at Nissan Technical Centre Europe.

Defined by the pursuit to meet the needs of drivers, Ariya is the epitome of Nissan’s innovation in electric mobility. Offering customers a new level of driving range, the advanced electric coupé crossover is ready for the drivers of tomorrow and marks the start of a new era for Nissan electric vehicles.

Helen Perry, Head of Electric Passenger Cars & Infrastructure for Nissan in Europe, said: “The Nissan Ariya is the result of a truly global effort. Together, we worked to bring new creative aerodynamic features to Ariya which – combined with its powerful performance, connected technologies and revolutionary new EV design – will, with no doubt, meet our customers’ expectations.”
