The 60th anniversary of the Jaguar E-type was celebrated in fine style this past weekend as around 400 E-types, their owners, sixty specialist exhibitors and enthusiastic visitors gathered for E-type 60.
The event, sponsored by SNG Barratt Group and Twyford Moors, was held under the sunniest skies of the year at the historic and spectacular Shelsley Walsh motorsport setting.
On the Friday preceding the event, E-type Club co-founder Philip Porter, Chairman of Worcester Civic Society Phil Douce and Motor Sport magazine editor Joe Dunn, unveiled a blue plaque in commemoration of the great Stirling Moss first competing at Shelsley Walsh in 1948.
Apart from a glut of competition Es including celebrated Lightweights, Low-Drags, the E2A Le Mans prototype, and the first two E-types ever raced, the event also played host to an incredible reunion of the 1961 Geneva Motor Show trio – the first time these three cars have been seen together for sixty years!
The first in a series of videos from E-type 60 Filming partner, Berlinetta Films, showing E2A driving up the hillclimb course can be seen https://youtu.be/JiS2GZexMJI
A non-stop entertainment schedule included regular hillclimb action; an outstanding motoring art exhibition, engaging chats with E-type experts; hilarious reminiscing with racing legends: Hopkirk, Attwood, Fitzpatrick and Sutcliffe; a fabulously ’60’s-themed party; and a raucous tribute to The Italian Job.
Roll on E-type 70.

- An example of arguably the most beautiful Bugatti racing car, the 1934 Type 59, is coming to the Concours of Elegance from 3-5 September
- In total, nearly 1,000 vehicles will be on display across the weekend as further features are revealed in the coming months
The Concours of Elegance remains the UK’s top concours d’elegance and among the top three in the world
Tickets can be bought now from www.concoursofelegance.co.uk/tickets
The Concours of Elegance – famed for gathering the rarest cars ever created – will showcase one of the most beautiful racing cars in existence, the Bugatti Type 59, at Hampton Court Palace this year.
Taking place from 3-5 September, the event is renowned as one of the top three concours d’elegance events in the world for the quality of cars it attracts; nowhere else in the UK can the public see such a high standard of rare historic vehicles.
The Bugatti Type 59 is famed as the most beautiful of all Bugatti’s motorsport creations and one of the best-looking racing cars of all time. Unlike many cars of its time, the Type 59 opted for a shape with the width of a two-seater so the driver could sit low next to the gearbox – Ettore Bugatti didn’t like having to sit his driver high over the propeller shaft as he would have to in a tighter, single-seat body. That shape tapers into a sharp point at the tail, which itself houses the fuel tank, in between two beautifully riveted halves of metal. Every detail is perfection, right down to the signature piano wire wheels, beautifully engineered and the perfect complement to the Type 59’s proportions.
The engine was a straight eight-cylinder, with two overhead camshafts driven by a train of gears from the rear of the crankshaft, this drive also being taken to the Bugatti built supercharger mounted on the right-hand side of the engine, with two down-draught Zenith carburettors on top.
Despite its advancements, and its beautiful shape, the Type 59 was arguably too late in developments to best the German competition on the Grand Prix circuits of the world. This example, #59124, had a best result of fourth at Spa-Francorchamps with Robert Benoist at the wheel. But with just six or seven built, and its enviable looks, the Type 59 remains one of the most desirable pre-war cars ever made.
Outside of the main display of vehicles, the Concours of Elegance will gather a total of around 1,000 cars in a number of special features and displays, including a Gulf vs. Martini celebration, a display of unique or bespoke modern rarities in the Future Classics class and a line-up of the finest coachbuilt Rolls-Royces. New for 2021 is a collection of 95 British cars gathered to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 95th birthday, and a 30UNDER30 Concours aimed at inspiring the next-generation of classic car enthusiast.
Away from the automotive displays, Concours of Elegance remains an occasion of pure luxury, with champagne provided by Charles Heidsieck, picnics by Fortnum & Mason, live stage interviews with Chubb Insurance, hosted by Jodie Kidd, and a collection of art, jewellery and fashion displays. Presenting Partner, A. Lange & Söhne, recently confirmed to support the event for a further three years, will continue to showcase some of its most intricate timepieces.
Tickets to the Concours of Elegance 2021 are available now from just £30 for half-day entry, with full three-course hospitality packages from £288. Tickets can be bought from concoursofelegance.co.uk/tickets

The PEUGEOT 106 will be celebrating its historic 30th anniversary in September 2021.
First launched on 12 September 1991, the PEUGEOT 106 was produced as a three-door model, and then a five-door model from 1992. Production for the model ended in 2003, having sold 2,800,000 cars.
The PEUGEOT 106 was introduced to broaden PEUGEOT’s offering in the B-segment, which accounted for just over a third of all European registrations at the time.
Upon launch in 1991, the PEUGEOT 106 was introduced as “a ball of sympathy wrapped in smiles and dressed in charm that feels so perfectly at home in its 3.56m of surprises and amazement.”
The PEUGEOT 106 was mainly manufactured in Mulhouse, Eastern France, but once customer demand for the car grew factories in Sochaux and Aulnay-sous-bois also welcomed the model onto its production lines. The PEUGEOT 106 was front-wheel drive available with petrol engines sizes from 954 to 1587cm3 and Diesel models from 1360 to 1558cm3.
Across 12 years of the PEUGEOT 106’s production, around 20 different special series models were produced. The most iconic were the very beautiful “Roland Garros” and “Zenith” which appeared in 1993, the famous 106 Kid and its jean seats in 1994, the very fun 106 Cartoon presented by Droopy from 1996 to 1999, the elegant “Inès de la Fressange” in 1997, and the Enfant Terrible marketed in 2000.
The car also came in sports versions with the 106 Rallye in 1993, the 106 XSI with 95hp in 1992 and 105hp in 1995, and the 106 S16 120hp in 1996 for its last year on the market. All are highly sought after today. The PEUGEOT 106 saw success across PEUGEOT Sport meetings and in Group N rallies. In 1997, the 106 Maxi was unveiled, inspired by the 306 Maxi. Developed and driven by Lionel Montagne from 1998, it was driven by Cédric Robert in 2000 who finished 5th in the French Rally Championship.
PEUGEOT was a forerunner of the electric car with the first ‘VLV’ (Voiture Légère de Ville, or ‘electric city car’) presented in 1941. The PEUGEOT 106 was the second and went on to hold the world record for electric car sales until 2010. The electric version sold nearly 3,550 units and was aimed at both private and fleet customers.
The PEUGEOT 106 has been the mainstay of emblematic advertising campaigns based mostly on humour with the famous slogan “A gentleman will do anything to borrow his wife’s car”.
The PEUGEOT Aventure Museum in Sochaux is dedicating an exhibition to the PEUGEOT 106 until the end of 2021. Eight models will be on display for the anniversary: 106 Rallye (Italian version) from 1994, 106 XSI from 1992, 106 Signature from 1995, 106 S16 from 1997, 106 Enfant Terrible from 2002, 106 Electric from 1996, 106 Maxi from 1997 and a prototype 106 Cabriolet from 1992.
The Museum teams are also preparing a large gathering of PEUGEOT 106s with the 106 Team Rally Club and the 106 S16 Club on Saturday 11 September 2021. All PEUGEOT 106 owners will be welcome. To find out more: www.museepeugeot.com

The production car has not strayed far from its roots offering innovative technology, emotive design and extensive range capability. The all-electric SUV will suit a wide-range of customers, fitting the need as an agile and spacious family car.
A new way for customers to create their perfect car
The new Enyaq iV introduces a new way for customers to perfectly tailor the car to their tastes and requirements. Enyaq iV customers select their ideal Enyaq iV, choose an initial deposit which can be as little as one monthly payment, choose their annual mileage and select their term of either 24, 36 or 48 months. Customers can then tailor their package by choosing one of three aftersales ‘care’ packages they would like: Small, Medium or Large.
The most affordable Small package covers a customer for essential servicing, which includes all routine manufacturer servicing, brake fluid changes, as well as dust and pollen filters. It also includes access to the Driverline concierge – a dedicated 24/7 service that covers breakdown, recovery and glass care.
The Medium package adds all routine maintenance items, including brake, suspension and cooling system repairs, electric system maintenance, and all fluid top-ups, while the Large package includes tyre replacement and wheel alignment (due to fair wear and tear), puncture repair, geometry check and wheel balance.
The Enyaq iV is the first ŠKODA production model to be based on Volkswagen Group’s MEB modular electric car platform. The all-electric SUV has been awarded the top five stars and the best-ever grading for occupant protection in the European New Car Assessment Programme (EURO NCAP) tests.
To ensure a safe environment for customers visiting ŠKODA retailers test drive appointments for the all-new Enyaq iV are available to pre-book at www.skoda.co.uk.

Historic racing fans were treated to a special celebration on the event’s loop lawn, with two fantastic cars and the family of a legendary racing driver. An original Blower Bentley, Team Car No.2., was presented by Bentley Motors Limited. Acknowledged as the most famous, and most valuable, Bentley in exitance, UU 5872 was campaigned by Sir Henry Ralph Stanley ‘Tim’ Birkin and competed in a number of high-profile races, including the 1930 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Joining the famous Blower on the Saturday were relatives of Bentley Boy ‘Tim’ Birkin, including his grandson and great grandson, who visited the event with their own 1927 3/4.5 litre Bentley. Understood to be the first time that the two cars have ever been brought together, the occasion served as a touching tribute to a fabled era of motorsport.
Scramblers assemble
The new Bicester Heritage Members Club ‘Scramblers’ was also launched over the weekend, giving members access to curated media, advanced tickets and exclusive themed events.
Born from the success of the eponymous events, Scramblers enjoy stories about car culture through the lens of the on-site specialists as they build and support the future for historic motoring.

A bigger and better Bicester Heritage
The June Scramble allowed guests to see The Command Works, the historic site’s eight new buildings built due to demand for space at Bicester Heritage.
Totalling 77,000 ft2 of business accommodation, the new facilities have been constructed sympathetically and in-keeping with their Grade II-listed surroundings and are part of the site’s expansion and plans to cement Bicester Heritage as a centre of excellence.
