Reviving an exceptional Series 1 E-type

  • E-Type UK fully restores iconic Series 1 FHC Jaguar E-type back to original factory specification
  • Meticulous refurbishment involves complete metalwork refabrication
  • Body shell hand-painted and polished to rare 1960s factory colour
  • Drivetrain performance upgrade package fitted to bring legendary chassis up to speed with today’s modern sports cars
  • Upgraded interior re-trimmed to an immaculate level of craftsmanship
  • More information at etypeuk.com/restoration/a-classic-combination

E-Type UK, leading restorer of the definitive classic sports car – has concluded a full refurbishment of the distinguished 1964 Series 1 FHC Jaguar E-type – rebuilt to a fine blend of originality and performance.

Revolutionary in its time, the Series 1 fixed-head coupe in left-hand drive was first ordered by its original owner in a stunning Pearl Grey exterior paint finish with Dark Blue leather interior. Sourced from deep within the Norwegian mountains, the rare combination of colours makes this particular Series 1 E-type example a truly rare find.

In the capable hands of E-Type UK’s team of experts, the Series 1 underwent an extensive restoration process, with supreme attention to detail down to the final bolt. Significant performance upgrades bring this automotive yardstick of the 1960s roaring into the 21st century.

Remastering a legendary body shell
The very first step in the car’s 3500-hour restoration process is to examine each body panel for signs of rust to guarantee absolute structural rigidity and chassis strength. After being sand blasted to remove remnants of material from the last 50+ years, each panel is primed to prevent any further rust from developing.

With this particular example, E-Type UK’s expert metalwork craftspeople created brand-new floors, sills, rear chassis, gearbox tunnel, bulkhead, inner and outer rear wings and a new bonnet to ensure it wasn’t just stunning to look at, but supremely safe, too. Once all new panels are mounted, accurately aligned, and welded to the original chassis, the body can then be lowered to the floor to allow for the next stage of meticulous restoration to take place.

Achieving a perfect finish
With the careful restoration of the 1964 Series 1 FHC Jaguar E-type’s metal shell complete, the unmistakable silhouette of the 1960s icon begins to take shape.

The filler process sees the shell receive a careful and detailed application of filler to ensure millimetre-perfect dimensions and panel gaps across the entire shell. Rust inhibitors are also applied to the exposed metal, alongside numerous coats of high-build primer. The body is then left to rest for several weeks to ensure all materials are fully hardened prior to painting.

Primed to be hand-painted in the car’s rare and original Pearl Grey finish, the shell is masked before being sprayed with the first of several coats of the striking colour. Secondly, a high-quality clear lacquer is carefully applied to ready the body for a final polish. To accomplish the outstanding exterior finish befitting a world-class restoration, the lacquer is subjected to hours of hand polishing to reveal a flawless shine.

Subtle enhancements to an established formula
To respectfully upgrade one of the most iconic British sports cars whilst simultaneously remaining true to the marque’s original intents requires a delicate and fine touch.

Renowned for their advanced engineering at the time, the E-type is fitted with an IRS (independent rear suspension), securing the rear wheels and suspension to the chassis and providing the driver with low levels of road noise, vibration, harshness, and a smoother ride.

A central element of this Series 1’s restoration involved a full rebuild of innovative IRS system, alongside being fitted with new bearings, universal joints, brake lines and coil overs.

Dedicated to forging a usable, supple, and reliable end product, E-Type UK additionally fitted 4-pot brake callipers, performance brake pads and a separate modern independent handbrake system.

With these highly desirable upgrades now fitted, the IRS unit not only provides the driver with more dynamic braking and superior road performance, but sets the stage for future subtle twists, such as an upgrade to E-Type UK’s front 6-pot brake callipers.

Modern performance with an original feel
Tasked with producing an unrivalled high performing Series 1 Coupe by the owner, the E-Type UK team conducted a full restoration of the 3.8-litre XK engine. The engine was completed to full fast road specification with a new gas flowed head, high lift cams, balanced and lightened crank with lip seal conversion.

Preserving yet modernising the gearbox was central to retaining the car’s period feel, without any historical drawbacks. Formerly a 4-speed, a new 5-speed gearbox was fitted, with the original 4-speed gearbox restored for originality, to ensure less engine strain and a more precise selection of individual gears.

To further enhance the performance of the newly installed 3.8-litre road engine, E-Type UK’s engineers proceeded with fitting the bespoke straight-six fuel injection system, boasting heritage throttle bodies with concealed fuel injectors, retaining the period aesthetic look.

Alongside the EFI system, the E-type engine bay is also treated to an uprated alternator, electronic ignition, high torque starter, crankshaft sensor, high and low-pressure fuel pumps, oil catch tank, air and coolant temperature sensors and removal of the traditional distributor, replaced with an uprated coil pack.

Thunderous grand touring and sharp B-road handling are now second nature to this masterpiece.

An exemplary interior, reborn
Sympathetically reconditioning the interior of this exceptional Series 1 E-type example marks the final step of the total restoration procedure.

With incredible depth of colour, the car’s original Dark Blue leather specification is recreated to perfectly compliment the newly painted Pearl Grey exterior, holding true to its heritage.

Retrimmed seats and dashboard with the finest quality leather finish off the exquisite cabin with finesse and style, whilst providing the driver with a comfortable and functional driving position for any type of journey.

Founded in 2008, E-Type UK is one of the leading authorities for sales, restoration, maintenance and upgrades for the iconic Jaguar E-type, earning a stellar reputation for the attention to detail and precision of its work as well as the approachable and professional nature of its team.

Aston Martin records first overall victory on the Nurburging Nordschleife

  • Aston Martin Vantage GT3 wins on Nurburgring Langstrecken Serie return
  • Vantage confirms its Nürburgring potential with brilliant win
  • Aston Martin becomes first British manufacturer to win an endurance event on the Nordschleife
  • Nicki Thiim and Maxime Martin victorious on driver pairing debut

Aston Martin’s Vantage GT3 made a victorious return to the Nürburgring Nordschleife, as the British luxury sportscar brand secured its first ever win on the famous German circuit in Round 8 of the high-profile Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie (NLS).

Against strong opposition from rival manufacturers Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, Audi and Mercedes, Aston Martin Racing and its works drivers Maxime Martin (BEL) and Nicki Thiim (DEN) – who were competing for the first time as a driver pairing – delivered an inspired performance in the four-hour race to clinch the first overall win for a British manufacturer at this level.

The race marked the first NLS participation for Aston Martin in the GT3 class since the current Vantage made its competitive debut at the Nürburgring, three years ago. With interest growing from existing partners and potential future customers to race the Vantage GT3 in the series, and the Nürburgring 24 Hours in 2022, the factory used the opportunity to demonstrate the car’s potential and to gather data around the Nordschleife.

Having qualified eighth, Martin made quick progress at the start, gaining two places on the first lap, and then another later in the opening stint when a rival retired. A clever strategy by the team saw them run three longer stints than their rivals bringing the car into victory contention. When Thiim handed the car back to Martin for his second stint, the Belgian found himself right behind a clutch of rivals, passing two of them in one breath-taking manouvre, and moved up to third. He passed the second-placed Audi just as the leading BMW made its final stop and gave the Vantage back to Thiim in the lead. The Dane, spurred on by the prospect of his first overall win on the Nordschleife, then brought the Vantage home safely 13s ahead of its nearest rival.

“It’s an awesome achievement for everyone to come here, with a ‘new’ car for the first time on the Nordschleife and win,” said Martin. “It shows the high level of preparation and how well we have developed the car. It’s great for Aston Martin to win here amongst all the German manufacturers. It’s not something that many brands have done! I felt confident in the car and had some nice fights to take the lead, and from there Nicki had to control and that is never easy here – so he did an amazing job as well. We didn’t have the fastest car, but we worked well as a team.”

Thiim added: “Veni, Vidi, Vici almost. We were stable all the way through. So much has happened to this car in three years, it’s completely different to the one that raced here then. We brought the best guys in the business with us to really try and understand the data so that next year we can create a strong package. It was a pleasure to race with Max for the first time, he made it easy for me to take my first NLS win. I’m proud and honoured to have been the one to have crossed the line first for Aston Martin at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.”

Aston Martin Racing President David King said: “This performance has clearly demonstrated the potential of the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 at the Nürburgring. To come to the heartland of the mighty German manufacturers and win with a car that had so little testing data under its belt at the start of qualifying is an extraordinary achievement, and there is plenty more to come as we were some way off the fastest race lap. Our goal when we came here was two-fold, to gather data to assist in the development of the car and to show potential partners and customers why Vantage deserves an NLS programme. I think we’ve done that emphatically. We’ve been wanting to win a race on this track for a very long time, so to claim a victory in this manner is deeply satisfying.”

Polaris Off Road welcomes all-new RANGER models for 2022

Following a year that saw more consumers engaging in outdoor activities than ever before, Polaris Off Road has unveiled its 2022 model year line-up for Europe, Middle East and Africa, with new models, colour options and upgrades across the RANGER, RZR, GENERAL and Sportsman brands.

Headlining the 2022 range is the all-new RANGER SP 570 and RANGER Diesel Deluxe, taking the industry’s No.1-selling utility side-by-side vehicle to the next level with user-inspired innovations and advancements.

POLARIS RANGER SP 570

RANGER 570 has been the top choice for farmers, landowners and outdoor enthusiasts for more than a decade, and now, with rider-inspired features to deliver enhanced capability, comfort and drivability, the new mid-size RANGER SP 570 works harder and rides smoother than ever before.

“Our customers lead a busy lifestyle and they don’t want to compromise on the two things they care most about: doing good quality work and enjoying time with the family,” said Chris Judson, Vice President of RANGER, GENERAL and ATV, Polaris.  “The RANGER SP 570 was designed so they don’t have to make these trade-offs; it’s great for work, fun to ride and the perfect fit.”

Redesigned from the ground up, the RANGER SP 570 features a bold, updated style along with a host of rider-inspired improvements. The redesigned cargo box is nearly 30 percent larger, delivering class-leading volume with a single-handle tailgate for quick and easy access for loading and unloading cargo. Integrated tie-downs, slots for cargo dividers, and Lock & Ride attachment points allow users to easily secure cargo and maximize utility.

Punching well above its weight, the proven Prostar 570cc double-overhead-cam engine packs class-leading power along with a new CVT system, two-times longer belt life and an upsized and re-tuned clutch system for improved low-speed drivability. The all-new suspension provides 25.4 cm of ground clearance, a tighter turning radius and a compact width of 144.5 cm, giving the 570 a best-in-class combination of manoeuvrability and capability.

With nearly 75 litres of onboard storage, including a mobile phone holder, enclosed storage bins, a map or tablet pocket, and a massive sealed glove box, riders can take everything they need for the ride. The cab is built around the user: The dash has been moved back to provide more knee space and there is a new quieter exhaust system so riders can enjoy a conversation while the vehicle is running.

Polaris is also offering 40 all-new accessories for the RANGER SP 570, along with four new accessory collections: Landowner, Farm, Hunt and Trail. New for 2022, Polaris introduces the RANGER Diesel Deluxe, combining the same durability, dependability and capability, with premium upgrades.

Jenika Bishop, RANGER Product Manager at Polaris, said: “The new Diesel Deluxe model is focused on providing our customers the value and key features they want in a vehicle, standard from the factory.”
